If you have loft insulation that was installed some time ago, it’™s probably thinner than specified by modern building regulations. You could benefit from increasing its thickness by having a ‘œtop up’ layer installed. The current recommended depth for mineral wool insulation is 270mm.

Loft insulation is simple to install and effective for at least 42 years and it should pay for itself many times over.

Loft Insulation FAQs
  • My loft is boarded -“ can you insulate it?

    If the loft is only partially boarded, we can insulate in between the boards, where the joists are exposed.

    If the loft is fully boarded and you don’™t need to keep the boards, then you can remove them and we can fit the insulation.

  • How much CO2 will I save?

    Around 990kg per year if you have no insulation at all. If you already have 100mm of insulation, you will still save around 95kg per year by upgrading.

  • What is the insulation material made from?

    We usually install mineral wool insulation. Mineral wool is a non-metallic, inorganic product made from a mix of raw materials, of which the biggest ingredient is either rock or silica. Modern mineral wool is soft to the touch, unlike earlier rough materials which could cause skin irritation.

  • How green is insulation?

    The energy conserved by insulating a house far outweighs the energy used in making the insulation material. Of all the actions you can take as a householder, insulation has the greatest potential for reducing CO2 emissions.

  • What do you do if joists are irregular or there are lots of obstructions?

    If rolls won’™t fit between your joists, we pour loose-fill insulation between the joists.

  • Does the insulation need any maintenance?

    No.
